CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia volleyball team returns home this weekend to host the second annual Marriott Cavalier Classic. George Mason, Stony Brook, Towson and Virginia Tech will all visit Memorial Gymnasium for the two-day tournament. Live stats will be available at VirginiaSports.com for all matches.

Play will begin at 4 p.m. on Friday, pitting George Mason vs. Stony Brook, before the Cavaliers (5-4) take the court for the first time at 7 p.m., facing conference-foe Virginia Tech in the ACC opener. The Hokies enter the tournament with an 8-1 record this year. Virginia leads the all-time series with its in-state rival, 31-24, and has won 16 of the last 20 meetings.

On Saturday, Stony Brook will play Towson at 11 a.m., prior to a match between Towson and Virginia Tech at 4 p.m. The Cavaliers will then be featured in the tournament finale, facing their second-straight in-state opponent, George Mason, at 7 p.m. GMU enters the tournament with a 4-6 record, while the Cavaliers lead the Patriots, 18-9, in the all-time series. The last meeting came in 2003, with Virginia topping George Mason in five frames.

Against in-state opposition, the Cavaliers hold an all-time mark of 159-89. In Memorial Gymnasium, Virginia is 85-24 all-time against those same opponents and since Mem Gym was renovated in 2003, the Cavaliers hold an unblemished 15-0 record against in-state teams on their home court.

The Marriott Cavalier Invitational will mark the end of the non-conference portion of the Cavaliers’ schedule. Virginia will head to Miami and Florida State next weekend for ACC contests.

Parking
Parking is free at the Culbreth Road Garage, located behind Carr’s Hill Field and at University Hall. Limited parking is also available at the Central Grounds Garage, with hourly rates charged at that facility.
