CHARLOTTESVILLE – The No. 7 Virginia women’s soccer team opens ACC play on Thursday night as it visits in-state rival Virginia Tech. Game time at Thompson Field in Blacksburg is set for 7 p.m.

The Cavaliers are 6-1-1 on the season, but are coming off their first loss of the year, a 1-0 setback at West Virginia on Sunday. The Hokies are 6-3-0 this season, and are riding a four-game winning streak with wins over LSU, Villanova, Vanderbilt and James Madison.

Thursday’s game is the 16th all-time meeting between the teams. The Cavaliers lead the all-time series 12-2-1. After winning the first 12 games in the series, Virginia is winless (0-2-1) over the last two seasons against Virginia Tech. The Hokies won last season’s meeting 2-1 in Charlottesville.

This season marks the fourth consecutive year Virginia has opened ACC play on the road. Last season’s 2-1 loss at NC State snapped the Cavaliers’ six-year winning streak in conference openers.

The Cavaliers will conclude their three-game road trip next Thursday when they visit No. 6 Maryland.
