CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia baseball team begins its annual fall intrasquad competition, the Orange and Blue World Series, at 3 p.m. Sunday at Davenport Field. The game time for Game 1 has been changed from the original start time of 6 p.m. In addition, there will be a game played at 1 p.m. Oct. 12 and no game on Oct. 14.

Admission to all seven games is free of charge. Parking will be available in the University Hall lots. All fans and staff attending the games should enter on the first base line of the baseball stadium via Lannigan Way. A concession stand also will be open during each of the games.

The team will be divided in half for the series. The Orange team will be coached by Karl Kuhn while the Blue squad will be coached by Eddie Smith. Click here for the full rosters.

The Orange and Blue World Series will consist of two three-game series and a Game 7. Games 1-3 and 4-6 are separate series. If a given team wins the first two games of a series, the third game of that series will be played based on run differential of the first two games to allow the trailing team to still win the series.

Each team is encouraged to score as many runs as possible and not worry about running up the score. In Games 1-3 pitchers will have limits of five innings or 75 pitches, and in Games 4-6 no pitcher may pitch more than five innings or 90 pitches. In Game 7 all pitchers are eligible to pitch but are limited to five innings or 90 pitches.

All pitchers are required to appear in each three-game series, and nine-man lineups will be used.

The Cavaliers return 22 letterwinners from the 2010 squad which won a school-record 51 games, captured the ACC Coastal Division title and won the program’s second straight regional championship. Eight highly-touted freshmen also enter the mix.
