Coming off a victory over No. 1 Boston College, the No. 6 Virginia women’s soccer team looks for another top-five win this week when it hosts No. 3 North Carolina on Friday at 7 p.m. talked to junior forward Lauren Alwine to discuss the victory over Boston College and preview the matchup with the Tar Heels.

Question: After the loss at Maryland on Thursday, how important was it to bounce back with the win over Boston College on Sunday?

Alwine: Any time you can beat the No. 1 team, it is a big deal. But coming off that loss at Maryland and getting another chance to play a highly ranked team, it was important for us to get some positive momentum back.

Question: What things were you able to take away from the loss at Maryland and improve upon?

Alwine: The biggest thing was finishing our chances. We didn’t capitalize on them at Maryland, and that was a focus going into the BC game. On Sunday, we were able to make them count.

Question: How important is it to take the tough ACC schedule one game at a time?

Alwine: It’s very important; each team in the ACC is strong. We can’t be looking at a game two weeks from now, we need to focus on one game at a time and put everything we have into that game.

Question: The team has struggled getting off to a strong start during games this year. How important was it to score five minutes into the game against Boston College?

Alwine: It was a big deal considering the fact that we have not been starting well. We now need to come out strong the entire first half though and not just in the first 10 minutes.

Question: Halfway through your junior season, you are already rank third at Virginia in career assists. What has been the key to your ability to set up chances for your teammates?

Alwine: I am out wide a lot and like to cross the ball. I try to do anything I can to get the ball in the box and we have some great forwards who can finish those chances.

Question: On Friday you play North Carolina. Over the last few years, the games have been close, but all losses. What is the key to this year’s game?

Alwine: We are coming off a big win and are feeling great. We need to come out strong like we did against Boston College and be consistent the entire 90 minutes.
