CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The No. 7 Virginia women’s soccer team concluded a two-game road trip to Florida with a 4-1 victory at Miami on Sunday. The Cavaliers had four different goal scorers on the day and improve to 11-3-2 (5-2-1 ACC), while the Hurricanes fall to 10-6-1 (4-4-0 ACC).

“We got off to a good start, scored two great goals and got settled into the game early,” said Virginia head coach Steve Swanson. “This is not an easy place to play and Miami is a tough team, so this is a good result for our team.”

The Cavaliers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute when Kika Toulouse (Arlington, Va.) headed in her first goal of the season off a corner kick from Erica Hollenberg (Fairfax Station, Va.). Sinead Farrelly (Havertown, Pa.) doubled the advantage in the 19th minute when she curled a shot from 25 yards out inside the post for her eighth goal of the season.

Early in the second half, Julia Roberts (Frederick, Md.) scored on a direct kick to make the score 3-0. Less than two minutes later, Hollenberg notched her first goal of the season off an assist from Roberts for the fourth Cavalier goal of the day. Miami got on the board in the 69th minute as Fatima Nasser scored on a penalty kick.

“Our depth came through again for us today,” said Swanson. “A lot of people played well for us and we got some great performances off the bench. That is a great sign for our team at this point of the season.”

Overall, Virginia outshot Miami 22-10 and had a 4-1 edge in corner kicks. Chantel Jones (Midlothian, Va.) made two saves for the Cavaliers, while Vikki Alonzo made four saves at the other end for the Hurricanes.

The Cavaliers return home Thursday for their final regular season game at Klöckner Stadium when they host NC State. Game time is 7 p.m.
