CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia women’s soccer team will host first and second round play of the 2010 NCAA Tournament this weekend at Klöckner Stadium. Virginia, the No. 2 seed in the Maryland quadrant of the bracket, will play Lehigh in a first round game Friday at 5 p.m. UNC Greensboro will play South Carolina in the other first round game at 7:30 p.m. Friday. The winners will meet at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

“We are excited to be able to play at home this weekend,” said head coach Steve Swanson. “To receive a No. 2 seed is a testament to our team and the season we have had. We have done extremely well at Klöckner Stadium, not just this season but historically. It is an advantage we have worked hard for, but one that we have to take advantage of. We have three strong teams coming here this weekend, so we need to get ready to be at our best.”

This season marks the 13th time in the past 17 years that the Cavaliers have hosted NCAA Tournament play at Klöckner Stadium. Overall, Virginia has a 14-9-3 record in home NCAA Tournament games.

Virginia is making its 17th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and 23rd overall appearance. Only North Carolina and Notre Dame have longer active streaks of tournament appearances. Last year Virginia advanced to the third round past St. John’s and Penn State before falling at UCLA.

The Cavaliers are 13-4-2 this season and are an at-large selection in the tournament. Lehigh (11-4-4), champions of the Patriot League, is making its first ever NCAA appearance. UNC Greensboro (19-1-1) enters the tournament on a 16-game winning streak and is the Southern Conference champion. South Carolina (14-5-4) is an at-large selection after finishing as the runner-up in the SEC.

Tickets for each round are $9 for reserved seats, $7 for adult general admission, and $5 for youth/student/senior citizen general admission. Fans can order tickets for the tournament online at VirginiaSports.com and by phone through the Virginia Athletics Ticket Office at 800-542-UVA1 (8821) or 434-924-UVA1 (8821). Tickets are also available at the gate beginning one hour prior to the start of play each day.
