CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia women’s basketball team begins a three-game homestand by hosting Drexel on Saturday (Dec. 4). Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m., and live statistics will be available at VirginiaSports.com.

The game will be broadcast over the airwaves on WINA 1070 AM in the Charlottesville area, with Jay James and Larry Johnson calling the action. That broadcast is available on the Internet through VirginiaSports.com with a subscription to V Pass.

Virginia (4-4) is coming off a 74-46 setback at No. 6 Ohio State on Thursday (Dec. 2). The game was part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The Buckeyes were the fourth-consecutive ranked opponent that Cavaliers had faced during a stretch from Nov. 25 to Dec. 2.

The Cavaliers’ leading scorer through eight games is junior guard Ariana Moorer (Woodbridge, Va.), who averages 12.0 points per game. Junior forward Chelsea Shine (Wayne, Pa.) ranks second on the team with 9.1 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.

Through eight games, Virginia is out-rebounding opponents, 331-281. As of Dec. 3, 2010, Virginia’s schedule has been rated the sixth-strongest in the nation according to CollegeRPI.com.

The Dragons are undefeated with a 5-0 overall record and wins over La Salle, Penn, Saint Joseph’s, Villanova and Tulsa. Kamile Nacickaits leads the team by averaging 16.8 points and 7.0 rebounds per game.

Drexel and Virginia have never met in women’s basketball action.

The head coach of Drexel is Denise Dillon and she is in her eighth season.

Following Saturday night’s game, Virginia hosts Radford on Monday (Dec. 6). Tip-off for that contest is scheduled for 7 p.m.
