KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Virginia divers began competition Monday at the Tennessee Diving Invitational, competing in the men’s 1-meter and women’s 3-meter events.

Freshman Alex Leinroth led the Cavaliers on day one, tallying a score of 244.80 for a 16th-place finish on the 3-meter board. Classmate Kelly Lloyd was 30th overall with a score of 199.40.

Junior Briggy Imbriglia, returning to competition after missing several meets because of injury, finished 30th on the 1-meter with a mark of 237.40. Senior Nathan Parker placed 34th with a score of 226.95.

“I am happy with day one,” Virginia diving coach Rich MacDonald said. “We have room to improve but we are off to a good start. The highlight was Alex finishing 16th, just a couple of spots outside the finals.”

Day two of the Tennessee Invitational continues at 12 p.m. Tuesday with the men’s 3-meter and women’s 1-meter events.
