ATLANTA – The Virginia women’s basketball team fell on the road to Georgia Tech, 68-48, Thursday afternoon at Alexander Memorial Coliseum in Atlanta, Ga. Sophomore guard China Crosby (New York, N.Y.) became the seventh Cavalier to be the high-scorer this season, netting 12 points in addition to her three assists.

With the loss, Virginia’s record fell to 10-8 overall and 0-3 in Atlantic Coast Conference action. Georgia Tech won its 12th-consecutive contest and improved to 15-4 overall (3-0 ACC).

“We didn’t handle their pressure well early and we didn’t rebound the ball very well,” UVa head coach Debbie Ryan said. “Those two things are deadly against Georgia Tech.”

For the second-consecutive game, Virginia was held to 19 first-half points. The Yellow Jackets, taking advantage of 11 Cavalier turnovers in the first period, led 32-19 at the break.

The Yellow Jackets extended their lead to 23 points with 16:33 left in the game. The Cavaliers cut the deficit to 14 points on three occasions, but got no closer down the stretch.

The Cavaliers were out-rebounded 39-25. UVa shot 42 percent from the field (20-48) and was 0-for-7 from behind the 3-point line.

Crosby’s 12 points tied her career-high. Paulisha Kellum (Upper Marlboro, Md.) was the other Cavalier in double figures and scored 11 points and dished out three assists.

Four Yellow Jackets were in double figures for scoring – Tyaunna Marshall (16 points), Alex Montgomery (14 points), Sasha Goodlett (14 points) and Deja Foster (10 points).

Georgia Tech finished with 21 points off of 22 UVa turnovers.

UVa concludes its non-conference schedule with a home contest vs. Pennsylvania on Sunday (Jan. 16). Tip-off at John Paul Jones Arena is scheduled for 2 p.m.
