BLACKSBURG, Va. – Senior Adams Abdulrazaaq led the Virginia track and field team on the opening day of the Virginia Tech Invitational by shattering his own school record in the 60m hurdles. Abdulrazaaq won the preliminaries in a personal-best time of 7.83, before bettering his previous school record of 7.85 from last year to 7.76 – the top time in the NCAA so far this season. The qualifying mark for the NCAA Championships is 7.70.

On the women’s side, senior Chidi Uche also advanced to the finals of the 60m hurdles, finishing fifth in the preliminary round with a time of 8.68. She improved her time to 8.64 in the finals to earn a fourth-place finish.

Redshirt junior Kristina Chapman and freshman Aaron Shepperd also had strong performances in the event, with Chapman missing the finals by one place and finishing ninth in a personal-best time of 8.81. That mark stands as the eight-best finish of all time at UVa. Shepperd ran 8.37 – the 10th-best time at Virginia.

In the 1,000m, redshirt freshman TJ Hobart won his first collegiate competition. Hobart finished the race in 2:28.40, while classmate Zach Vrhovac finished fourth in 2:32.83.

Junior Kevin Anding wrapped up events on the track with a runner-up finish in the 300m. Anding finished with a time of 34.16, while freshman Patrick Farmer took fifth in 34.74.

In field events, senior Marcus Robinson finished third in the triple jump, leaping 50′ 3.25″.

Virginia will return to action tomorrow at 11 a.m.
