Cavaliers Have Strong Day Two at UVa Winter Invitational

CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia women’s tennis team had a strong second day at the UVa Winter Invitational, as play continued at the Boar’s Head Sports Club. The Cavaliers won seven singles matches and three doubles matches against Arkansas during Sunday’s action.
For the second straight day the Cavaliers swept all of their doubles matches. In Flight A, the team of Lindsey Hardenbergh (Fairfax Station, Va.) and Erin Vierra (Norwell, Mass.) topped No. 35-ranked Kate Lukomskaya and Kelsey Sundaram 8-5. The 16th-ranked team of Maria Fuccillo (Rockville, Md.) and Rashmi Teltumbde (Mumbai, India) won in Flight B, as did the 10th-ranked team of Emily Fraser (Rye, N.Y.) and Hana Tomljanovic (Boca Raton, Fla.) in Flight C.
In singles, four Cavaliers won for the second consecutive day. Hardenbergh won in Flight C, Fuccillo won in Flight D, Caryssa Peretz (Cherry Hill, N.J.) won in Flight F, and Marjorie Baker (Washington, D.C.) in Flight G all improved to 2-0 in the tournament. Fraser in Flight A, Vierra in Flight B and Katie Gater (Dunblane, Scotland) in Flight H also won on Sunday.
Action concludes Monday at the Boar’s Head Sports Club. Play begins at 9 a.m. and admission is free.
