Cavaliers Return to Virginia Tech for the Hokie Invitational
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia track and field team will return to Blacksburg, Va., this weekend to compete in the Hokie Invitational at Virginia Tech’s Rector Field House. Events are scheduled to begin on Friday at 5 p.m., and Saturday at 10 a.m. Live results will be available at VirginiaSports.com.
Senior Adams Abdulrazaaq leads the Cavaliers on the men’s side this year, as the hurdler broke his own school record in the 60m hurdles and currently holds the top time in the nation – 7.76. Abdulrazaaq has won all four hurdles races that he’s toed the line for this year and was named the ACC Men’s Track and Field Performer of the Week this week for his accomplishments.
Redshirt freshman TJ Hobart and freshman Anthony Kostelac also claimed titles for the Cavaliers at the Virginia Tech Invitational last weekend. Hobart won his first collegiate competition in the 1,000m, while Kostelac earned his first title in the 800m. Other event winners this year include junior Vincenzo Chiariello (weight throw) and freshman Leo McLaughlin (60m), who each won their respective events at the Liberty Kick Off.
On the women’s side, senior Kristina Chapman, junior Erin Wykoff, sophomore Emily Vannoy and freshman Emily Kianka have all won events this year. Chapman won the 60m hurdles, Wykoff the weight throw, Vannoy the shot put and Kianka the high jump – all at the Liberty Kick Off.
Following the weekend, the Cavaliers will split up for competitions on Friday, Jan. 28. Virginia will head to State College, Pa., for the Penn State National Invitational or to New York City for the Millrose Games.
