CHARLOTTESVILLE – The season opening doubleheader for the Virginia women’s tennis team will start one hour earlier on Saturday than previously scheduled. The Cavaliers’ match with Brown will now begin at 10 a.m. at the Boyd Tinsley Courts at the Boar’s Head Sports Club. The second match of the day, against Richmond, will start as originally scheduled at 4 p.m.

The No. 24 Cavaliers open the year with their highest preseason ranking since 1994, when they opened the year ranked No. 21. Virginia has a school-record five players nationally ranked in singles. The Cavaliers are tied with Duke, Florida, Notre Dame and Stanford for the most players currently ranked. Three Cavalier sophomores each received their first career singles ranking, with Erin Vierra (Norwell, Mass.) at No. 29, Hana Tomljanovic (Boca Raton, Fla.) at No. 73 and Maria Fuccillo (Rockville, Md.) at No. 111. Juniors Lindsey Hardenbergh (Fairfax Station, Va.) at No. 56 and Emily Fraser (Rye, N.Y.) at No. 88 round out the group of five ranked Cavaliers. In doubles, the Cavaliers have two of the top 16 teams in the rankings. The team of Fraser and Tomljanovic are No. 10, while Fuccillo and Rashmi Teltumbde (Mumbai, India) are No. 16.

Brown enters the season ranked No. 62 nationally, while Richmond has won the Atlantic 10 title the past two seasons.
