CHARLOTTESVILLE – The top-ranked Virginia men’s tennis team will host an ITA Kickoff Weekend event on Friday and Saturday at the Boyd Tinsley Courts at the Boar’s Head Sports Club. The four-team tournament is used for qualification for the 2011 ITA National Team Indoor Championships, held next month in Seattle.

The Cavaliers (4-0) will host Cornell on Friday at 6 p.m. The Big Red, considered by many the most talented team in the Ivy League, is 3-0 this season and ranked No. 66 nationally. The Cornell coaching staff features a pair of familiar faces, as first-year head coach Tony Bresky spent the past seven years on Brian Boland’s staff at Virginia and assistant coach Houston Barrick was an All-ACC performer for the Cavaliers during his career from 2007-2010.

Friday’s first match will be between No. 50 Binghamton (0-0) and No. 51 East Tennessee State (0-2). Match time is at 2 p.m.

On Saturday, Friday’s losers will meet in the consolation match at 2 p.m. and Friday’s winners will meet at 6 p.m. in the championship match. The winner will advance to the 2011 ITA National Team Indoor Championships next month in Seattle, where Virginia is looking to win an unprecedented fourth consecutive title.

Admission to all home Virginia tennis matches is free.
