Postgame Quotes

Virginia head coach Debbie Ryan
Opening Statement:

“What do you say? I was just really proud of the fight that we had tonight. We were up, we were down. We were in, we were out. We played with a lot of heart and so did NC State. They played a great game as well with a short number of people on their bench. I can’t say enough about the players and the way they were resilient and sustained an effort over a long period of time tonight. We’ve played in a lot of close games this year and it was good to finally win one.”

On Ariana Moorer’s game-winning basket:
“We can run that play two different ways. We had five seconds but it was for her to get to the rack. And she got there.”

On trailing by five points with less than a minute to play in the second overtime:
“We work on late-game situations every single day. Five points is nothing to us. We never think about anything but winning.”

On the victory:
“It’s huge. Any win is huge. We’re looking to be as good as we can be heading into the ACC Tournament.”

On the play of Ataira Franklin:
“She’s the most steady player I’ve ever been around. She’s a warrior, a true warrior and I was so proud of her performance tonight.”

Virginia guard Ariana Moorer
On her game-winning shot:
“When we were in the timeout and we drew up the play, they said ‘Ari, we want you to take the last shot.’ In my head I’m thinking ‘we’re due,’ because I’ve had so many chances to win games – Maryland, Florida State last year. So I just knew it had to go in at some point.”
