CHARLOTTESVILLE – The top-ranked Virginia men’s tennis team will travel to Seattle this week for the 2011 ITA National Team Indoor Championships, hosted by the University of Washington. The Cavaliers are looking to become the first school to win four consecutive ITA National Team Indoors titles.

The Cavaliers (10-0) are the top seed at the event and will open play against No. 29 Washington, the host school, in the first round. That match is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. ET on Friday.

Virginia has won the ITA National Team Indoor title the last three years, becoming just the second school to win three consecutive championships. Stanford won the first three tournaments held in the mid 1970s.

The Cavalier lineup features five of the top 25 ranked singles players in the latest ITA rankings. First-year Alex Domijan (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) is No. 2, seniors Sanam Singh (Chandigarh, India) and Michael Shabaz (Fairfax, Va.) are No. 13 and No. 15 respectively, junior Drew Courtney (Clifton, Va.) is No. 23 and sophomore Jarmere Jenkins (College Park, Ga.) is No. 25 in this week’s rankings.

Virginia won its first ITA National Team Indoors title in 2008 in Seattle. The Cavaliers followed that by winning the 2009 title in Chicago and the 2010 title on their home courts at the Boar’s Head Sports Club.

The tournament runs through Monday with the quarterfinals on Saturday, semifinals on Sunday and the championship match on Monday. Live scoring and video streaming of the tournament is available at gohuskies.com.
