Charlottesville, VA – Virginia football coach Mike London announced today the Cavaliers’ spring football schedule. The first of the team’s 15 practice dates takes place March 16 on the practice fields behind the McCue Center. In addition to the practices held at UVa, the Cavaliers will hold free open practices at Darling Stadium in Hampton on March 19 and Episcopal High School in Alexandria on March 26. Those practices are scheduled for 1-3 p.m. The team will play its annual Orange-Blue spring football game Saturday, April 2 at Scott Stadium following the UVa men’s lacrosse team’s game against Maryland that starts at noon.

In addition to the open practices in Hampton and Northern Virginia, the Cavaliers’ practice sessions on March 16 (6-8 a.m.), 18 (6-8 a.m.), April 8 (6-8 a.m.) and 9 (Noon to 2 p.m.) will be open to the public. Those practices will take place behind the McCue Center on the football practice fields.

“We had a tremendous, positive response to moving a spring practice to Norfolk last year so I said ‘let’s do it twice this year,’ and we chose to go to both Hampton and Northern Virginia this spring,” London said. “It was great to take our team out to our fans and our players enjoyed a break in the routine to go someplace else and practice.”

Admission to the April 2 Orange-Blue spring football game at Scott Stadium will be free following the conclusion of the men’s lacrosse contest. The football team will take the field approximately five minutes after the conclusion of the men’s lacrosse team’s game. The football team’s Orange-Blue spring game will begin after a warm-up period that will last approximately 35 minutes.

“The Virginia-Maryland lacrosse game is big time, so this should be a very exciting afternoon at Scott Stadium for our fans and I’m excited to be a part of it,” London said. “We want to do our part to make it a great day, so we are planning to play a game format and not just hold a scrimmage. I think that’s what our fans want and I think the players enjoy the competition you get from having a game. We will name our captains and recognize the players who have achieved in the classroom and in the community. I promise we’ll have some fun out there as well. I look forward to seeing everyone there.”

Scott Stadium’s East, West, and South lots and the North D lot off Alderman Road will be available for free parking starting at 8 a.m. on April 2. Free public parking will also be available in the Emmet / Ivy Parking Garage and University Hall parking lots. Hourly rates will apply at the Central Grounds Garage. Scott Stadium’s gates will open at 11 a.m.

Tickets for the men’s lacrosse game will be $7 for adults and $5 for youth, seniors, and UVa faculty and staff for General Admission seating. Scott Stadium’s gates will open at 11 a.m.
