CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia freshman Maddy Keeshan has been named the WomensLax.com Rookie of the Week for the period ending February 27. Keeshan helped the Cavaliers to two convincing road wins last week – a 23-13 victory over Richmond and a 21-11 upset win at No. 9 Syracuse.

In the Cavaliers’ contest at Richmond on Wednesday (Feb. 23), the Greenwich, Conn., native recorded her first collegiate goal. She followed that up on Sunday (Feb. 27) with her first career hat trick, notching three goals to go with three assists against the nationally ranked Orange. The six points marks the most by a Cavalier freshman in a single contest since former All-American Blair Weymouth had six goals in a 13-8 victory over No. 1 Duke in the finals of the 2006 ACC Tournament.

Keeshan has started all three games for Virginia this year. The midfielder has four goals and three assists, while she has also earned four draw controls, two ground balls and caused one turnovers.

This marks the first career weekly award for Keeshan.
