Charlottesville, VA – The 17th-ranked Virginia men’s golf team will compete at the 14th Annual Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate on Monday, March 7 and Tuesday, March 8 at the historic Palmetto Golf Club. The course was founded in 1892 and is recognized as the fourth oldest golf course in the United States.
 


The 14th Annual Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate will feature a 6,565-yard, par 70 setup. The first two rounds of the tournament will be played on Monday, March 7. The 54-hole tournament will conclude with a single round on Tuesday, March 8.

In addition to host USC Aiken, the field includes Akron, Alabama, Chattanooga, Clemson, College of Charleston, East Carolina, Elon, Francis Marion, Furman, Georgia Southern, Kentucky, Liberty, Maryland, Presbyterian, Wofford and Vanderbilt.

Chattanooga carded a cumulative team score of 855 to earn the team victory in the 2010 tournament while Virginia was fifth at 871. The Cavaliers’ Ben Kohles captured medalist honors at 5-under 205. He shot 7-under 63 during the second round to tie the Virginia single-round scoring mark.

Kohles enters the tournament coming off his fifth career victory. He won a three-way playoff for medalist honors at the John Burns Intercollegiate in Hawaii in UVa’s first spring tournament. Kohles currently tops the team with a 71.50 stroke average.

Amory Davis, Will Collins, Ben Rusch and Bruce Woodall join Kohles in the Cavalier lineup for the Palmetto Intercollegiate.
