Baton Rouge, LA – The seventh-ranked Virginia women’s golf team is tied with top-ranked Alabama for fifth place after the opening round of the LSU Golf Classic taking place on the University Course in Baton Rouge. The Cavaliers shot 13-over 31 during Friday’s play. Wake Forest leads the 21-team field at 6-over 294.

Virginia sophomores Nicole Agnello and Brittany Altomare both shot 1-over 73 to lead the Cavaliers. They are tied for seventh place in stroke play. Calle Nielson is in 13th place at 74 while Portland Rosen and Joy Kim are back in the pack. Rosen shot 81 and is in 77th place while Kim carded an 86 and is in 99th place.

North Carolina’s Catherine O’Donnell and Wake Forest’s Natalie Sheary are tied for first at 1-under 71.

Round two begins Saturday with individuals and the top 12 teams starting at the No. 1 tee at 7:51 a.m. and off No. 10 with individuals and then teams 13-21 at 8:15 a.m.
