LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Virginia track and field team earned four victories, in addition to 14 top-three finishes, on a wind-swept Saturday afternoon at the Liberty Invitational. Virginia’s 4×100 relay team of sophomore Danielle Williams, senior Kisha Garrick, senior Kristina Chapman and junior Meagan Gillespie combined to win the event, while senior Adams Abdulrazaaq (110mH), sophomore Pearl Bickersteth (high jump) and Erin Wykoff (discus) won their respective events.

Williams, Garrick, Chapman and Gillespie opened competition on the track with a victory in the 4x100m relay. The quartet combined for a time of 46.18.

Abdulrazaaq, the school record holder in the 110m hurdles, won the event with a time of 14.43, while Bickersteth claimed her second-ever high jump crown, clearing 5′ 8″. Wykoff claimed the discus title with a throw of 150′ 11″.

Five Cavaliers and UVa’s men’s 4x100m relay team earned runner-up finishes on the day. In field events, freshman Edy Ndem finished runner-up in the long jump, while junior Maureen Laffan was second in the shot put and sophomore Dallas Rose was third in the triple jump with a mark of 38′ 5.5″. Ndem leaped 18′ 5″ and Laffan threw 48′ 1.75″.

On the track, Williams earned a pair of runner-up finishes. Williams took second in the 100m dash in a time of 12.22 and second in the 200m in 24.81. Senior Kristina Chapman was the runner-up in the 400m hurdles, crossing in 1:00.93.

The Cavaliers’ 4x100m relay team of junior Malcolm Carradine, sophomore Austin VonOhlsen, freshman Ozzie Bryan and freshman Leo McLaughlin combined for a second-place time of 41.98.

Earning third-place finishes were freshman Tommy Devita and Emily Kianka, in addition to Virginia’s 4x400m relay of freshman Briana Brazile, freshman Ali Gillen, Chapman and Gillespie.

Devita took third in the high jump, clearing 6’8.25″ to earn the 10th-best mark of all-time at UVa. Kianka also earned a third-place finish in the high jump, clearing 5′ 6″, while the Cavaliers 4x400m quartet completed the race in a time of 3:54.84.

Virginia will return to action next weekend, heading to Athens, Ga., for the Spec Town Invitational and to Fairfax, Va., for the Patriot Open.
