Athens, GA – The seventh-ranked Virginia women’s golf team tied with Florida State for 13th place at the 23-team Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic at the University of Georgia Golf Club. Virginia carded its best round of the tournament, shooting 5-over 293 on Sunday, but fell back in the standings after starting the final round in seventh place. UVa completed the 54-hole tournament at 19-over 883. Alabama, ranked second, won the tournament by eight shots at 4-under 860.

Brittany Altomare and Calle Nielson led the Cavaliers, tying for 15th at 8-over 224. Altomare shot 3-over 75 during the final round while Nielson carded a 73.

Eleana Collins, playing as a non-scoring individual, was 25th at 225. She shot 76 Sunday. Portland Rosen was 35th at 227 including a 73 during the final round. Joy Kim finished in 84th place at 235 and Nicole Agnello was 88th at 237.

The tournament used a best ball format with all five competitors from each school playing together as opposed to seeded players from three or four teams playing in groups. Traditional stroke play scoring was used to determine the individual standings.

Georgia’s Marta Silva Zamora took medalist honors at 4-under 212.

The tournament was UVa’s final regular season event. The Cavaliers will compete at the ACC Championships April 15-17 in Greensboro, N.C. at Sedgefield Country Club.
