Charlottesville, VA – After wrapping up regular season competition last weekend, the Virginia women’s golf team has moved up to sixth place in the latest Golfstat standings. UCLA tops the rankings while USC is second, Alabama is third, Purdue fourth and Duke fifth. Wake Forest is the next highest ranked ACC team in 16th place.

Virginia’s highest ranking in the Golfstat poll came following the 2009 season when the Cavaliers finished the season in fourth place.

“It is certainly exciting for the girls because they have had a wonderful season but all of our focus is on the ACC Championships,” said head coach Kim Lewellen. “We’ve had a unique year where everyone has had a least one very strong outing. Now we need to put it all together next weekend in Greensboro.”

Virginia has one tournament victory this season, the Golfweek Conference Challenge and five other top-five finishes. Five different players have led or shared the team lead in tournament scoring this season.

The Cavaliers will play at the ACC Championships April 15-17 at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro.
