No. 1 Virginia Plays Host to High Point at 6 p.m. Tuesday

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The top-ranked Virginia baseball team wraps up the home portion of its 2011 schedule at 6 p.m. Tuesday when it entertains High Point at Davenport Field.
WINA 1070-AM will carry the live radio broadcast, while the game audio also will be streamed online at VirginiaSports.com. Tuesday marks the final $2 Tuesday at the park, with $2 hot dogs and sodas available throughout the evening.
High Point will be making its first-ever trip to Charlottesville. The two programs have met just one time previously, an 18-7 Virginia win at High Point on March 12, 2001.
A unanimous No. 1 in the major national rankings this week, Virginia (45-6, 22-5 ACC) is 14-0 in midweek games this season. The Cavaliers won two of three games against then-No. 16 Miami last weekend in their first games after a nine-day break for final exams. UVa now has won all nine of its ACC series this season and 15 straight dating to the 2010 season.
Virginia maintains the ACC’s top earned run average at 2.24 entering the week. UVa also leads the ACC with a .981 fielding percentage. The Cavaliers rank third in the conference in batting at .309.
David Coleman (Sr., Richmond, Va.) leads the Cavaliers in batting at .372, which stands third in the ACC. John Hicks (Jr., Sandy Hook, Va.) is right behind him at .361 – fourth in the conference.
High Point (23-29, 8-16 Big South) dropped two of three games in a Big South series at Radford last weekend. Steve Antolik leads the Panthers with a .369 batting average as well as a team-best six homers, 18 doubles and 42 RBI. Sal Pezzino is batting .351, while Mike Mercurio is close behind at .336.
High Point is batting .282 as a team. The Panthers own a 5.14 team ERA and .957 fielding percentage.
Virginia finishes the regular season Thursday through Saturday with a three-game series at No. 13 North Carolina. UVa holds a two-game lead over Georgia Tech in the ACC Coastal Division heading into the final weekend. With one win or a Georgia Tech loss, UVa will clinch the No. 1 seed in the ACC Baseball Championship, scheduled for May 25-29 in Durham, N.C.
