CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia women’s soccer team will make a school-record three television appearances during the 2011 regular season. The Cavaliers will have a chance to make even more television appearances during the postseason.

“We are excited about the opportunity for our team to be on national television more than once this fall,” said head coach Steve Swanson. “It is tribute to the growth of the women’s game that as a program and a conference we can have so many fans at all levels exposed to college soccer through television now.”

Two of the Cavaliers’ regular-season contests will be on national television. The Sept. 25 contest at North Carolina will air live on ESPNU, marking the team’s first ever appearance on the network. On Oct. 20, Virginia will host in-state rival Virginia Tech in a game that will be televised by Fox Soccer Channel.

The Cavaliers’ trip to Duke on Sept. 29 is part of a new slate of games aired regionally on the ACC’s Regional Sports Network (Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic in Virginia).

In addition to the three regular-season TV games, Virginia could be on the air more times in the postseason. The ESPN family of networks will provide coverage of the semifinals and final of the ACC Tournament. Both semifinals will air live online at ESPN3.com and the championship game will air nationally for the first time on ESPNU.
