CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia women’s soccer team was picked fourth in the ACC in the annual preseason poll of the league’s coaches. It is the third consecutive year the Cavaliers have been selected fourth in the poll.

North Carolina was tabbed as the preseason favorite in the conference, edging out Boston College. Florida State was third and the Cavaliers fourth. Maryland, Duke, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, NC State, Miami and Clemson rounded out the poll.

North Carolina, Boston College, Florida State, Virginia and Maryland have all earned top 10 preseason national rankings by both the NSCAA and Top Drawer Soccer.

The Cavaliers open their preseason schedule Friday afternoon against reigning NCAA Champion Notre Dame in Maple City, Mich. They return home to host George Mason in an exhibition Sunday night at 7 p.m. at Klöckner Stadium. Virginia opens the regular season on Aug. 19 as it hosts West Virginia at 7:30 p.m.
