CHARLOTTESVILLE – The No. 6 Virginia women’s soccer team continues its nine-game homestand this weekend with a pair of games at Klöckner Stadium. The Cavaliers host in-state foe Liberty on Friday at 7 p.m. and St. John’s on Sunday at 4 p.m.

Tickets for each game are $7 for adult general admission and $5 for youth, senior and faculty/staff general admission.

The Cavaliers (2-0) opened the season with a pair of wins last weekend. In the season opener last Friday, Virginia rallied from a 1-0 deficit in the eighth minute for a 2-1 win over then-No. 13 West Virginia. The Cavaliers followed that with a 6-0 win over Richmond on Sunday. Gloria Douglas (Fayetteville, N.C.) led UVa offensively with one goal and three assists over the first two games.

Friday’s game will be the season-opener for the Flames. Projected to finish fifth in the Big South this season, Liberty is coming off an 8-10-3 season in 2010. St. John’s will be making its second trip to the Commonwealth of Virginia in as many weeks. The Red Storm (1-1) opened the season last weekend with a 5-0 loss at William & Mary and a 2-1 win at George Mason.

Virginia and Liberty are meeting for the 11th time, with the Cavaliers having won each of the previous 10 meetings by a combined 45-0 score. Last year the teams met in the season opener for both teams, a 4-0 Cavalier win at Klöckner Stadium.

Virginia and St. John’s are meeting for the second time, and for the first time in the regular season. The only previous meeting came in 2009, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in University Park, Pa. The Cavaliers advanced 3-1 in penalty kicks after the teams played a scoreless draw despite UVa’s 39-6 shot advantage in the game.
