Charlottesville, VA – The Virginia women’s golf team is ranked fifth in the Golf World/NGCA Division I College Women’s Preseason Coaches’ poll. UCLA tops the rankings followed by USC, Alabama and LSU. Duke (No. 7), North Carolina (No. 9) and Wake Forest (No. 14) are the other conference teams in the rankings

The Cavaliers finished fourth at the 2011 NCAA Championships and return three players from that lineup. Headlining that group is two-time All-American Brittany Altomare. The junior has finished in the top-15 at the NCAA Championships in each of the last two seasons. Also back is sophomore Portland Rosen and junior Nicole Agnello. Lauren Greenlief and Elizabeth Brightwell are two other returning veterans who competed last year.

Virginia opens its season Sept. 23 at The Fall Preview, which takes place in Nashville, Tenn. at the site of the 2012 NCAA Championships.
