CHARLOTTESVILLE – Seven members of the Virginia men’s tennis team earned preseason rankings from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Six Cavaliers were ranked in singles and two teams were ranked in doubles, highlighted by No. 1 rankings for Alex Domijan (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) in singles and Mitchell Frank (Annandale, Va.) in the freshman/newcomer singles.

Domijan becomes the second Cavalier to open a season on top of the ITA rankings, joining Somdev Devvarman in 2007-08. The 2011 ITA National Rookie of the Year, he finished last season ranked No. 4 nationally.

Joining Domijan in the national singles rankings are Jarmere Jenkins (College Park, Ga.) at No. 18, Drew Courtney (Clifton, Va.) at No. 21, Julen Uriguen (Guatemala City, Guatemala) at No. 65 and Justin Shane (Falls Church, Va.) at No. 82.

For the second consecutive year, Virginia has the No. 1 player in the freshman/newcomer preseason rankings. Frank, the runner-up at this year’s USTA boys’ 18s national championships, is the top-ranked incoming player a year after Domijan held that spot.

Virginia also had a pair of doubles teams receive preseason rankings. Courtney, a 2010 NCAA Doubles Champion, teams with Steven Rooda (Amersfoort, The Netherlands) at No. 12, while the team of Jenkins and Uriguen start the year at No. 52.

The Cavaliers open the fall season Sept. 23-25 when they host the UVa Ranked+1 Invitational at the Snyder Tennis Center. The UVa Grand Slam, scheduled for Sept. 15-18 at the Boar’s Head Sports Club, has been cancelled.
