CHARLOTTESVILLE – Virginia junior forward Caroline Miller (Rockville, Md.) was named ACC Women’s Soccer Player of the Week, conference officials announced Tuesday. Miller’s golden goal in the 105th minute gave the Cavaliers a 1-0 double-overtime win at No. 5 North Carolina on Sunday, the program’s first win over the Tar Heels in 38 all-time meetings.

The honor is the second of Miller’s career and the first for a Cavalier player this season. She earned her first ACC Player of the Week honor as a first-year in 2009.

Miller’s game-winner against the Tar Heels came midway through the second overtime period. Morgan Brian (St. Simons Island, Ga.) threaded a through ball between two defenders into the run of Miller, who took a touch before placing a shot just inside the far post. It was her team-leading 10th goal of the season, and now has as many goals this season as she had in her first two seasons combined. Miller also became the second-fastest Cavalier to score 10 goals in a season (11 games), just behind Angela Hucles in 1997 (scored her 10th goal of the season in the ninth game of the season).

The seventh-ranked Cavaliers face another top-five road test on Thursday as they visit fourth-ranked Duke. Game time at Koskinen Stadium in Durham is 8 p.m., and the game will be televised on the ACC Regional Sports Networks (Comcast SportsNet in Virginia).
