CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia women’s soccer team will host rival Virginia Tech in the NCAA Round of 16 Sunday at Klöckner Stadium. Game time between the Cavaliers (16-4-2) and Hokies (14-7-1) is 1 p.m. It is the first ever NCAA Tournament game between the Commonwealth rivals in any sport.

Tickets are $9 for reserved seats, $7 for adult general admission and $5 for youth, UVa students, and senior citizen general admission. Fans can order tickets for the game online at VirginiaSports.com. Tickets are also available at the Klöckner Stadium gate beginning one hour prior to the start of play.

On Sunday, free parking will be available for both women’s soccer and women’s basketball fans in the University Hall parking lot and in Emmet/Ivy Parking Garage due to the women’s basketball game against Tennessee at 2 p.m.

The John Paul Jones Arena west lot is reserved for women’s basketball permit holders and therefore unavailable on Sunday for women’s soccer fans.

The eighth-ranked Cavaliers reached the round of 16 with a pair of shutout wins. Virginia topped Long Island 2-0 in the first round last week and downed Washington State 3-0 in the second round on Friday. It is the seventh consecutive season the Cavaliers have reached the round of 16, but they are looking to reach the NCAA quarterfinals for the first time since 2005.

The Hokies have posted a pair of upsets to reach the round of 16. In the first round they won 1-0 over Big East champion West Virginia in Morgantown. In Friday’s first game at Klöckner Stadium, the Hokies defeated Big 12 champion Texas A&M 3-1. It is Virginia Tech’s second all-time appearance in the round of 16 as it looks for its first trip to the quarterfinals.

Virginia leads the all-time series with Virginia Tech 14-2-1, including a 9-1-0 advantage in Charlottesville. The Cavaliers won this year’s regular season meeting 4-0 on October 20 at Klöckner Stadium.

The winner of the Virginia-Virginia Tech game will play the winner of the Florida State-Louisville game in the quarterfinals next weekend. Date and location will be announced after Sunday’s games are completed.
