Sophomore forward Jazmin Pitts (Mosely, Va.) recently checked in with VirginiaSports.com to discuss the women’s basketball season so far. The Cavaliers are 9-2 and face in-state rival James Madison on Tuesday (Dec. 20) at 7 p.m.

Question: How would you describe the season thus far?
Pitts
: It’s going really well; 9-2, you can’t really complain about that, especially after beating the No. 3 team in the country (Tennessee) and I feel like we’re just going up from there. The team and the coaches are loving it – it’s a good feeling.

Question: What kind of impact has this new staff had?
Pitts
: A huge impact. The whole system has changed. We are becoming a bigger family and a closer family and that is helping us play a whole lot better this season.

Question: How was the team’s Thanksgiving trip to Hawaii?
Pitts
: Hawaii was great it just took us forever to get there and forever to get back. It was probably the longest trip I’ve ever taken. But it was a really good atmosphere out there – very different from what we’re used to. Overall it was a great trip and great opportunity for us all to bond a little more.

Question: How have you developed as a player from where you were as a first year?
Pitts
: I would say just really playing my role. When you come off the bench you have to make a huge impact. I try to do that every time I come into the game. You just have to keep improving and you’ll get more playing time as a result.

Question: What has been your favorite arena to play in? Is there one you haven’t played in but would like to at some point?
Pitts
: JPJ is definitely my favorite. There hasn’t been an arena that has topped it yet. I am really looking forward to playing at Cameron Indoor Stadium (at Duke) this year. Their fans and atmosphere looks like such an experience. We’ll see come Jan. 2.

Question: What was your favorite class this semester?
Pitts
: I would say my history class, called the history of dress. It wasn’t really my favorite in terms of work, but it was my favorite in terms of just learning new and different material. We learned about the history of fashion through the different time periods. We did a lot of drawings – it was so much work – but it was very interesting.

Question: Are you a big fashion person?
Pitts
: Not at all, so it was definitely a step out of my regular atmosphere. My final presentation was orange and pink; I’m trying to bring it back!

Question: What is your major?
Pitts
: I am thinking about a sociology major with a minor in leadership.

Question: What are your plans for the holidays?
Pitts
: I’m just going to go home and enjoy some time with my family. We’ll get a few days off and I am looking forward to sleeping a lot of hours each day. Then we’ll be back to play in the Marriott Cavalier Classic and then get ready for ACC play.

Question: What do you like to do for fun?
Pitts
: I have become a huge movie fan lately.

Question: What are your top three favorite movies?
Pitts
: No. 1 is Love and Basketball. Obviously! No. 2 is The Pursuit of Happyness. No. 3 is My Sister’s Keeper.

Question: Anything you can recommend that you have seen recently? Anything to watch over the holidays?
Pitts
: Paranormal Activity 3 was crazy! I liked it though. Over break I am going to watch Breaking Dawn Part I because I haven’t seen it yet.
