CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia forward Brian Ownby (Sr., Glen Allen, Va.) and defender Mike Volk (Sr., Bear, Del.) each were selected Tuesday in the 2012 Major League Soccer Supplemental Draft, held in New York City. Ownby was picked seventh overall by the Houston Dynamo, while Volk was taken 12th in the second round (31st overall) by the New York Red Bulls.

The duo joins teammate and UVa defender Hunter Jumper (Sr., Plano, Texas), who was selected by the Chicago Fire in the second round of the Major League Soccer SuperDraft last Thursday.

Ownby played at midfield and forward for the Cavaliers this year, scoring six goals and adding a pair of assists in 18 games. He was a second-team All-ACC selection in 2011 after earning first-team All-ACC honors last year. Ownby also was the 2009 ACC Freshman of the Year and scored 21 goals while assisting on 10 more during his UVa career.

Volk was a two-time team captain for the Cavaliers and manned one of UVa’s center back spots for the past three years. He played in 64 contests while at Virginia, starting all but two. He started all 19 matches in which he played in 2011.

Both Ownby and Volk were key members of Virginia’s 2009 NCAA Championship team. Each was named to the ’09 College Cup All-Tournament Team.
