CHULA VISTA, Calif. – Virginia field hockey players and Olympic hopefuls Paige Selenski (Shavertown, Pa.) and Michelle Vittese (Cherry Hill, N.J.) played this week in a four-game series for Team USA against Australia at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif.

The Americans went 0-2-2 in the four-game series with the Australians, ranked No. 7 in the world. Vittese received the player of the game honor in the third match of the series, a 1-1 tie. A full recap from each game along with photo galleries can be found here.

The Cavalier duo redshirted the 2011 season to take the school year off to play and train with the United States national team.

Both Selesnki and Vittese return to Charlottesville at the end of January where they will be honored on National Girls and Women in Sports Day on Jan. 29. The Virginia women’s basketball team plays host to Florida State at 3:30 p.m. at John Paul Jones Arena. They will be honored at halftime for their achievements in helping Team USA to its first Pan American Games gold medal in field hockey in October, which automatically qualified them for the 2012 Olympic Games.

Team USA will continue to train in Chula Vista until late February when it travels to Spain for a Four Nations Tournament that also includes Great Britain and Belgium.

The 16-member United States Olympic Team will be announced in June.
