CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia women’s soccer program has announced that five players will join the Cavalier program this fall. Makenzy Doniak (Chino Hills, Calif.), Jessie Ferrari (Fairfax, Va.), Kristen McNabb (Montville, N.J.), Brittany Ratcliffe (Williamstown, N.J.) and Emily Sonnett (Marietta, Ga.) have signed National Letters of Intent with the Cavaliers and will be first-years on the 2012 Virginia women’s soccer team.

The class ranks among the top classes to come to Virginia. All five players are ranked among the top 65 players in the class by ESPN Rise. Three of the players are NSCAA All-Americans and four have United States youth national team experience.

“Overall, we could not be more pleased with this incoming 2012 class,” said head coach Steve Swanson. “The players that make up this class are not only talented soccer players, but also bright students, great team players, hard workers and committed to helping our program reach new heights. Another ingredient that this class has, which we were really looking for, is a competitive drive to succeed. As a group, these five players are as competitive, motivated and hard working as any class we have recruited to Virginia. They will be a great compliment to the core of veterans we have returning this fall and as a result we feel this team has the makings of something special in 2012.”

These five players will join 20 returning players, including seven starters, from last year’s squad. The 2011 Cavaliers went 17-5-2, finishing the season ranked No. 6 nationally, and reaching the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament. It was Virginia’s 18th consecutive NCAA appearance (third longest streak nationally) and its 24th overall NCAA appearance.
