CHARLOTTESVILLE – After finishing the regular season with a 21-9 overall record and a 9-7 mark in Atlantic Coast Conference play, the Virginia women’s basketball team finished in a tie for fifth place in the standings and earned a No. 6 seed to the 2012 ACC Tournament. The conference championship will be held March 1-4 at the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, N.C., and UVa faces 11th-seeded Boston College in the first round on Thursday (March 1) at 8 p.m.

The game will be televised on the ACC’s Regional Sports Networks (Comcast SportsNet in the Charlottesville area).

Virginia and North Carolina each finished with a 9-7 conference record, but North Carolina won the head-to-head tiebreaker for the No. 5 seed.

Regular-season champion Duke (24-4, 15-1 ACC) is seeded first in tournament field and will be seeking its third straight ACC title. Miami (25-4, 14-2) is seeded No. 2, followed by No. 3 Maryland (25-4, 12-4) and No. 4 Georgia Tech (22-7, 12-4). Each of the top four seeds earned first-round byes and will open play in quarterfinal round on Friday.
