NEW ORLEANS-Senior Marcus Robinson (Richmond, Va.) has been named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association’s Southeast Region Field Athlete of the Year, the USTFCCCA announced Monday.

Robinson is currently ranked No. 1 on the country’s triple jump list after hitting a mark of 16.63m (54’6.75″), an ACC indoor and Virginia school record, at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., on Feb. 11. He successfully defended his conference crown at the 2012 ACC Championship with a leap of 16.32m (53’6.5″).

“It’s certainly a great acknowledgement of all of Marcus’ hard work and dedication through four years here,” jumps coach Michael Eskind said. “He’s focusing on feeling good, healthy and showing up fresh to be able to compete with the best athletes in the country this coming weekend.”

Robinson will compete in the triple jump at the 2012 NCAA Championships, scheduled for 5:30 p.m., on March 10 in Nampa, Idaho.
