Charlottesville, VA – The 23rd-ranked Virginia women’s golf team opens play at the LSU Golf Classic Friday, March 9. The three-day, 54-hole tournament will be contested at LSU’s par-72, 6,186-yard University Course. Virginia won the tournament in 2009 and finished second there last season.

The tournament marks the Cavaliers second event during their spring break week. The Cavaliers opened the spring portion of their schedule with a fifth-place finish at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate last weekend at Hilton Head Island, S.C.

Brittany Altomare and Briana Mao led UVa with seventh-place performances. Altomare currently tops the team with a 72.71 stroke average that has her ranked No. 14 in the latest Golfweek standings.

The field for this year’s tournament includes: LSU, the College of Charleston, Kentucky, Louisiana Monroe, Louisville, North Carolina, NC State, Notre Dame, Purdue, TCU, Tennessee, UNC Wilmington and Vanderbilt.

Virginia’s lineup will be the same as the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate – Elizabeth Brightwell, Nicole Agnello, Lauren Greenlief, Mao and Altomare. The Cavaliers will tee off Friday at 9 a.m. from the first tee and will be paired with Kentucky and Tennessee.
