CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia men’s tennis team announced Wednesday that senior Philippe Oudshoorn (Apeldoorn, The Netherlands) has been named a team captain, joining Drew Courtney (Clifton, Va.) and Jarmere Jenkins (College Park, Ga.), who were named captains prior to the season.

“It makes me proud to name Philippe Oudshoorn the third captain of our team for the remainder of the 2012 spring season, along side Drew Courtney and Jarmere Jenkins who have done an exceptional job,” said head coach Brian Boland. “Philippe’s daily efforts over the past six months have played a major role in continuing to raise the expectations of professionalism, competitiveness and sacrifice that our players have set out for themselves. I have always preached to my student-athletes that the most powerful gesture of leadership is to lead by example and I have to say that Philippe has done an exceptional job of doing just that this year as Virginia Cavalier. I think the best is yet to come as far as Philippe’s influence on our team and this is why he has been honored by his peers and coaching staff with the role and responsibility of being one of our team captains.”

Oudshoorn is 10-7 this season in singles and 13-5 in doubles. He is currently ranked No. 30 nationally in doubles with Justin Shane (Falls Church, Va.).

Virginia begins a three-match homestand Friday as it hosts Oklahoma at 3 p.m. at the Snyder Tennis Center.
