Awendaw, SC – The 24th-ranked Virginia men’s golf team is in fourth place after the opening 18 holes of play at the Hootie @ Bulls Bay Intercollegiate in Awendaw, S.C. The Cavaliers shot 1-under 287 and trail tournament leaders Kentucky and Auburn by two shots.

Virginia freshman Ji Soo Park turned in the tourney’s best opening round score, shooting 3-under 69. He is one shot ahead of eight players tied for second at 2-under 70, including teammate Ben Kohles. Park had three birdies and no bogeys in recording the lowest round of his career.

UVa’s Denny McCarthy is in 25th place at 73, Ben Rusch is 49th at 75 and Bruce Woodall is 59th at 76.

The second round of the tournament is set for Monday with the final round Tuesday. Live scoring is online at Golfstat.com.
