PRINCETON, N.J.-Three members of the Virginia rowing team, senior Martha Kuzzy (Minneapolis, Minn.), junior Kristine O’Brien (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) and sophomore Brandy Herald (Portland, Ore.), have been accepted to the 2012 Women’s U23 National Team Camp in Syracuse, N.Y., and Princeton, N.J.

Out of the camp, the women’s eight and women’s quadruple sculls crews that are selected will compete at the 2012 World Rowing Under 23 Championships July 11-15 in Trakai, Lithuania. In addition, the camp may select crews in the women’s four, pair and double sculls that will compete at the USRowing Under 23 National Team Trials June 24-27 in West Windsor, N.J. A full team roster will be named by July 1.

At the 2011 World U23 regatta, Kuzzy finished fifth with the women’s four and O’Brien finished seventh with the women’s quad for the US. All three have also competed for the US Junior National squad. O’Brien was a part of the 2- that placed sixth in 2009 in France, while Kuzzy and Herald were part of the 2008 women’s eight that won gold in Linz, Austria. Herald also won gold with the women’s eight in 2009 in France.

At UVa, both Kuzzy and O’Brien were a part of the Cavaliers’ first Varsity Eight that that finished second at the 2010 NCAA Championships and helped the team secure the national championship. They also were members of the V8 that won the petite final at the 2011 NCAA Championships and finished seventh. Herald was a member of the second Varsity Eight that placed fifth at the national meet.

The Cavaliers’ next competition is the UVa Invitational on Lake Monticello April 14-15.
