COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Virginia softball team (20-21, 5-10 ACC) fell at Maryland 8-0 in five innings Sunday at Taylor Stadium in College Park, Md. The Terps (23-17, 3-6 ACC) swept the series with the Cavaliers after taking a doubleheader on Saturday.

Virginia was outhit 8-1 for the game as the Terps put up three runs in the first and third innings and two more runs in the bottom of the fourth.

The Cavaliers’ lone hit was a single by sophomore Erica Cipolloni (Philadelphia, Pa.) in the top of the fourth inning.

The Virginia defense was hindered by four errors, all of which helped aid run production for the Terrapins. Junior Melanie Mitchell (White Plains, Md.) took the loss; she allowed four earned runs and finished with three strikeouts.

Maryland’s Kendra Knight picked up the win in the circle. She finished with four strikeouts and one walk.

The Cavaliers look to bounce back with a midweek home contest Wednesday vs. George Mason. A doubleheader is set for 5 p.m. at The Park.
