CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia softball team (20-21) returns home for a doubleheader with George Mason at 5 p.m. Wednesday at The Park. Live statistics will be available on VirginiaSports.com.

The Cavaliers are coming off a series sweep at Maryland over the weekend and will look to bounce back against the Patriots.

UVa has a home record of 7-7 on the year and is led by sophomore Erica Cipolloni (Philadelphia, Pa.) at the plate with a .281 average. Cipolloni’s six home runs also lead the squad. Classmate Marcy Bowdren (Fairfax Station, Va.) contributes a .258 average with a team-high 31 hits and 23 RBI.

In the circle, junior pitcher Melanie Mitchell (White Plains, Md.) paces the pitching corps with a 1.58 ERA and 22 complete games.

George Mason is 10-33 on the year and has dropped its last nine games dating back to an April 4 doubleheader sweep at the hands of the Terps.

Freshman shortstop Brooke Blankenship leads the Patriot offense with a .357 average, one of three players hitting over .300. She also boards a team-best nine doubles, five home runs and 24 RBI.

Mason has six different pitchers who have seen action this season, led by sophomore Stephanie Maher’s 3.25 ERA in 26 appearances. Freshman Casey Herring also posts a 3.64 ERA in 23 appearances. Her five wins lead the staff.

Virginia leads the all-time series with George Mason, 52-24. The two teams last met during the 2009 campaign, a Cavalier sweep in Fairfax, Va.
