CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.-Virginia volleyball head coach Dennis Hohenshelt announced Tuesday (April 24) that Amanda Barnes and Manon Fuller will join the Cavaliers in the fall of 2012.

Barnes, a 5-6 defensive specialist from Virginia Beach, Va., was named to the 2011 Virginia High School Coaches Association All-State first team and honored as the Beach District Player of the Year by the Virginian-Pilot.

“Amanda was one of the best high school players in Virginia last year and I expect her to come in and challenge right away for playing time as a back row defender,” Hohenshelt said. “She brings a positive and energetic outlook to the court and I have been very impressed with how hard she plays the game all of the time.”

Fuller, a 6-0 outside hitter from Los Angeles, Calif., helped lead her high school team, Marymount, to the California Interscholastic Federation Division I State Championship match and was named to the all-championship team after tallying 17 kills in the state final.

“I am excited that Manon has chosen to attend the University of Virginia,” Hohenshelt said. “She is a very well rounded volleyball player who has the ability to play outside hitter or the libero position. Manon comes from a great club volleyball program and I expect her to have an immediate impact on the program.”

Barnes and Fuller bring the Cavalier volleyball program’s incoming class to five, joining Natalie Bausback (Carlsbad, Calif.), Vivian Burcescu (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) and Kayla Sears (Moorpark, Calif.).
