University of Virginia Post-Game Notes

• Virginia’s appearance in the 2012 NCAA Regional serves as the program’s 12th all-time tournament appearance, including its ninth straight.
• The Cavaliers are now 30-26 all-time in NCAA Tournament play and 24-20 under head coach Brian O’Connor.
• The loss by UVa marks the first time since the 2008 the Cavaliers did not win the first two games of their NCAA Regional. In 2009, 2010 and 2011 UVa started at least 2-0 in the regional round, while going 3-0 in both 2009 and 2011.
• UVa starting pitcher Artie Lewicki lasted 4.2 innings and gave up a career-high six runs, all earned. It was Lewicki’s shortest outing since going 4.1 innings at North Carolina on April 15.
• After ASU hitters went 7-for-10 through the first 2.0 innings, UVa pitching limited ASU hitters to 4-of-22 hitting over their final six at bats, while zero runs crossed the plate.
• Nate Irving had a 13-pitch at bat before doubling in the top of the sixth. He fouled off six pitches in a row before blasting his double into the right-center field gap.
• ASU hit two Cavalier batters on Sunday afternoon. UVa has been hit seven times in this NCAA Tournament. UVa has now been hit 98 times this season, the most in the ACC.
