CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.-Virginia head rowing coach Kevin Sauer has been named the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) National Coach of the Year, the CRCA announced Monday (June 4). It is the second time in three years Sauer has earned the honor (2010).

Sauer led the Cavaliers to their second NCAA Championship Memorial Day weekend and coached the First Varsity Eight to its first national crown. Virginia captured its 12th ACC Championship in 13 years in April and the First Varsity Eight won the Championship Eights at the Head of the Charles in the fall.

He was named CRCA All-South Region Coach of the Year as well as ACC Coach of the Year earlier in the season.

In his 17 years at the helm of the varsity program, Sauer has been named National Coach of the Year twice, All-South Region Coach of the Year four times (2005, 2007, 2010, 2012) and ACC Coach of the Year eight times (2000, 2003-04, 2007-08, 2010-12).
