WASHINGTON – In the first ever matchup between Virginia alumni on the ATP Tour, Treat Huey (Class of 2008) and Dom Inglot (Class of 2009) downed Drew Courtney (Class of 2012) and his partner, former USC star Steve Johnson in Saturday’s doubles semifinal of the Citi Open at the FitzGerald Tennis Center at Rock Creek Park. Huey and Inglot downed Courtney and Johnson 6-4, 6-4 to reach their second career ATP final as a duo.

Huey and Inglot, currently ranked No. 32 in the ATP Doubles Team Rankings, took an early lead in the first set as they broke Courtney’s serve in the opening game. It proved to be the only break of serve in the set as Huey/Inglot took it 6-4. The second set started in the same way as Courtney was broken in the opening game. Huey/Inglot held that lead until Inglot was broken to get Courtney/Johnson back even at 4-4. Huey/Inglot broke back in the next game and Huey served out the 6-4, 6-4 win in the ensuing game.

Huey and Inglot will meet Kevin Anderson and Sam Querrey in Sunday’s final. Match time is slated for 1 p.m.

It is the second career ATP Tour final for Huey and Inglot. In April they were the runner-up at the US Clay Court Championships in Houston, falling in the final to the team of Querrey and James Blake. Overall, this is Huey’s fourth career ATP Tour final as he looks for his first career title. Courtney, who won his first two ATP Tour matches to reach the semifinals with Johnson, will likely jump over 500 spots in the ATP rankings with his performance in Washington, from No. 827 this week to near No. 300 next week.

Another former Cavalier also advanced to a final on Saturday. Sanam Singh (Class of 2011) reached the singles final of the USTA Futures Circuit Event in Decatur, Ill. On Sunday he will play former Illinois standour Ryan Rowe in the final as he looks for his fourth Futures Circuit singles title this year.
