WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Five current and former members of the Virginia men’s tennis team compete this week at the Winston-Salem Open, an ATP 250 event. Incoming first-year Harrison Richmond and alumni Somdev Devvarman and Sanam Singh competed in qualifying singles, and alumni Treat Huey and Dom Inglot are in main draw doubles.

Richmond reached the second round of qualifying. In the first round, he downed current Wake Forest player Amogh Prabhakar 3-6, 6-4, 6-1. He lost in the second round to world No. 102 Sergiy Stakhovsky of Ukraine 6-1. 6-4.

Singh reached the final round of qualifying, where he lost to Stakhovsky 6-7(8) 6-3, 6-3. After he downed Juan Sebastian Cabal of Colombia 2-6, 6-1, 6-1 in the first round, he upset the No. 1 seed in qualifying, world No. 71 Matthew Ebden of Australia in the second round, 7-6(3), 5-2 ret.

Devvarman, who is continuing his comeback from injury, lost in the first round to world No. 90 Benjamin Becker, the 2004 NCAA singles champion at Baylor, 6-2, 6-0.

Inglot and Huey will be in action in doubles later this week. They are competing for the first time since winning the Citi Open earlier this month for their first career ATP Tour title.
