Area Businesses Supporting Virginia Athletics

Charlottesville, Va. – Virginia fans are encouraged to wear orange and blue to support “Paint the Town Orange” and College Colors Day on Friday, Aug. 31. The annual “Paint the Town Orange” Pep Rally will be held that night at the Charlottesville Downtown Pavilion at 8:15 p.m. The Virginia football team opens the 2012 season Saturday, Sept. 1 at Scott Stadium against Richmond. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.

The Cavalier spirit squads will be on the Downtown Mall starting at 5:30 p.m. distributing promotional items, orange Virginia yard signs, and greeting fans. The Cavalier Marching Band will march from the west end of the Downtown Mall to the pavilion at approximately 7:45 p.m.

The Virginia athletics department also invites area businesses to join its countdown to the kickoff of football season and “Paint the Town Orange” leading up to the Cavaliers’ home opener.

“Paint the Town Orange signifies the start of a new athletics season and really showcases the community spirit that exists for the University and its teams,” said Todd Goodale, associate athletics director for marketing and video services. “We’re here to help area businesses celebrate the start of another season with us and provide new opportunities to connect with Cavalier fans.”

The athletics department’s marketing and promotions office will provide flags, posters, schedule cards, and other materials to help local businesses show their support. Businesses can arrange to pick-up these items or have them delivered by calling (434) 982-5600 or by sending an email to tlm5g@virginia.edu.

Participating businesses will be included in an article on the athletics department’s official website, VirginiaSports.com, and the department’s Facebook page. Pictures of decorated businesses will be part of an online photo gallery. Photographs may be submitted by email to tlm5g@virginia.edu. Businesses may also call or email the office and a representative will take a picture for you. The athletics department will encourage football season ticket holders to support the businesses that have pledged their support.
