GREENSBORO, N.C.-Graduated senior Sarah Borchelt of the Virginia rowing program has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Rowing Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive year, the conference announced Monday (July 2). In addition, the conference announced Borchelt, Sarah Cowburn, Martha Kuzzy, Chandler Lally and Hunter Terry have been named to the All-ACC Academic Rowing Team.

This is the third consecutive year a Virginia rower has been honored as the Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Jennifer Cromwell earned the award in 2010.

Borchelt, a two-year co-captain, helped the Cavaliers to capture the 2012 NCAA Championship in May. She was a part of the Second Varsity Eight that finished fifth at the national regatta and won the ACC Championship in April.

She was named to the Capital One Academic All-America Women’s At-Large First Team in June. The Sterling, Mass., native was twice named a Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) National Scholar-Athlete and this is third time she has been named to the All-ACC Academic squad. She graduated in May with a degree in nursing with a 3.92 GPA.

Cowburn (Worcester, England) and Kuzzy (Minneapolis, Minn.) were both name first-team All-Americans by the CRCA after being a part of the national champion Varsity Eight boat that was also named the ACC Crew of the Year. Kuzzy was a member of the All-ACC Academic team in 2011 as well.

Lally (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) was the stroke seat of the 2V8 that placed fifth at the NCAA Championships, while Terry was a member of the Varsity Four that second at the national regatta.
